Get ready for the
next wave in audio books. The Station Library now has a
collection of over 1500 audio books on MP3/CD; 100 titles so
far, and the collection is growing rapidly. Thanks to MP3 file
compression, each CD can hold over 12 hours of spoken audio,
Moby Dick, unabridged fits on two CDs. Many unabridged audio
books fit on a single disc. To listen to an MP3CD you need the
right equipment. Most computers with CD-ROM drives can decode
MP3 files. Many DVD players are MP3 capable. Many new CD
players have MP3 decoding built in. For those who would like
to try an MP3/CD but don't have the player, we have portable
MP3/CD players (with cassette adapters) available for check
out. Just request one at the circulation desk. Please note:
that due to the cost of the players, sponsors or spouses must
sign them out. |

The Station
Library now has 6 portable e-book readers available for
checkout. Each is loaded with over 40 titles. The e-book
readers are approximately the size and weight of a hardcover
book, and are ideal for "Chain-Readers" who are on the road.
They also feature adjustable print size and backlighting, and
can be easier to read than print books in some situations. The
readers include built-in dictionaries that allow readers to
look up unfamiliar words with a point and a click. Four of the
library's readers are loaded with mixes of bestsellers and
popular fiction, with some classics and popular nonfiction.
One reader is especially for families; it includes 120 titles,
mainly classics and titles for children and teens. The sixth
reader features nonfiction (history and biography especially),
drama, poetry, and classics. To see a list of the titles on
