|
CDC Hourly Care |
Why do I have to pay for the time reserved instead
of the time scheduled? |
|
Hourly care is staffed by the time slots reserved by
patrons. Schedules are distributed to staff one week
in advance in accordance with personnel policies. In
order to keep hourly care as a child care option
patrons pay for the amount of time utilized. |
|
New Parent Support Program |
Why were play groups terminated? |
The new contract for the NPSP phased out the
“play groups.” Additional cuts were also made
in the NPSP contract with home visits being the
number one priority.
|

|
General Counseling Services |
Why is there a waiting list for General Counseling
Services? |
|
During intake, all individuals are given
a referral list of Tri-Care approved providers as
well as the MILITARYONESOURCE referral. Military
OneSource provides 6 free sessions for general
counseling per topic with an approved provider.
Call 1-800-342-9647 for a confidential consultation
anytime 24/7. Marine and Family Services schedules
counseling appointments on a first come-first served
basis. |

|
Club System |
There are currently no clubs aboard
this base,
what is being done to correct this issue?
|
Where to begin? Are we talking facilities or
usage?
FACILITIES
●
The Officers Club was closed by the base
commander due to Asbestos.
● The Clubs at Pelican Point was closed by another base
commander due to high cost of repairs.
● The Pit has opened at the BOQ and has state of the art
equipment
|
|
Restaurants |
Why don’t we have a Golden Corral or a
Outback on this base?
|
The quick answer is attempts have been made
to draw some of the larger chain food
establishments to MCAS Cherry Point. But
these chains do not believe there is
sufficient business upon this base for their
establishments to operate successfully.
|
|
Smoking |
How come I cannot smoke either
in the Club
or the Roadhouse?
|
The President issued an Executive Order
13058, "Protecting Federal Employees and the
Public from Exposure to Tobacco Smoke in the
Federal Workplace," on August 9, 1997, to
establish a smoke-free
environment for federal employees and
members of the public visiting or using
federal facilities.
|
|
Station Theater |
How do you pick the movies that
are shown at the theater?
|
Selection of movies for showing is done
by Navy Motion Pictures. After
negotiations have
been completed with the Studios, each
base is notified as to the movies it
will receive.
|
|
New City Deli |
I love the New City
Deli. But the line is
too long. What can be
done about the wait?
|
There are plans to expand New
City by the end of the year.
Expansion
Will increase the capacity to
make sandwiches, allow space for
catering
and will have a dedicated
cashier for carryout orders.

|
Auto Care Center |
Why isn’t the Auto Care Center
open on Saturdays?
|
History has shown us that when the Auto
Care Center is open on Saturdays, we
have very few patrons.
|
|
Why isn’t there an air hose available 24 hours a
day? |
|
An air
hose is available 24 hours a day. |
|
|
Auto Skills Center |
Why isn’t there a motorcycle
jack at the Auto Skills Center?
|
|
History has shown us that when the Auto Care Center
is open on Saturdays, we have very few patrons. |
|
Why can’t I get things welded at the Auto Skills
Center? |
|
MCCS just hired a certified welder. |
|
Bowling Center |
Why isn’t the Bowling Center
open longer on weekends?
|
The Bowling Center is open 81 hours a
week. Monday thru Thursday – 0900 –2100,
Friday and Saturday – 0900 – 0100 and
Sunday and Holidays – 1400 – 2100. The
Bowling Center is a Category C,
facility, and to remain open any longer
during the week would cause a loss of
revenue.
|
|
Golf Course |
Why isn’t there any
starters/marshals to enforce the
rules/regulations at the Golf
Course?
|
Starters/Marshals started 1 June 2007.
|
|
Golf Course Pro Shop |
Why doesn’t the Pro Shop sell
Ping golf clubs?
|
Ping pulled all of their equipment out
of several military Pro Shops because
they were selling the golf clubs below
Ping’s retail price.
|
|
Marinas |
Why does it cost so much to rent
Hancock Lodge?
|
Comparatively speaking, Hancock Lodge
costs just a small percent of what the
“Out in Town” prices are. The price we
charge just barely covers the costs of
operating the Lodge. Over 50% of the
Lodge usage is waived fees for official
functions.
|
|
Outdoor Connection |
Why do we have to pay for
equipment at Outdoor Connection,
when it is a unit function?
|
All official unit functions receive the
following at no charge:
|
1
Inflatable (Moonwalk) • 1
Canopy • 1 Pig cooker (gas
or charcoal) • 1 Dunk Tank • 2
Large Ice
Chests • 2 Medium Ice Chest |
Normal fees are charged for additional
equipment.
|
|
Why doesn’t Outdoor Connection rent out campers? |
It is the responsibility of the
individual to have the proper insurance
coverage for any piece of equipment
being towed by his vehicle. In 2005, all
of the major Insurance companies changed
their polices on equipment being towed
(campers). They have dropped the
automatic Comprehensive and Collision
part of their polices and now only have
the Liability coverage. To add the
needed temporary Collision/comprehensive
insurance for the piece of equipment
(camper) being towed is expensive and
requires a visit to the insurance
company.
|
|
|
|
|
Finances |
Where does MCCS money
go?
|
Money
generated from sales at our
Exchanges, Convenience Stores, Snack
bars, and other MCCS facilities are
put back into MCCS programs that do
not generate their own revenue
(examples are Library, Fitness
Centers, free events, Community
Center, MCFTB, SMP). Funds are used
to pay nonappropriated fund
employees at these activities,
purchase supplies, books, towels,
fitness equipment, tools, and the
like. MCCS also pays a portion of
all sales to MCCS HQ for the Central
Construction Fund as well as the
Central Operating Fund.
|
|
Fees |
Why do I have to pay
fees at places like the
Auto Skills Center and
Outdoor Connection?
|
|
These fees, which are substantially
less than those paid off-base,
offset the operating costs of these
activities as well as provide for
the future replenishment of
equipment, supplies, and normal
operating costs. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Deployment |
What type of
classes/support groups
does Cherry point offer
for the families of
deployed service
members?
|
We offer Pre-Deployment Briefs with
a new format and our recently
updated Return and Reunion Workshops
for spouses and children. These
briefs/workshops are planned by the
unit FRO. We are planning a Kids in
Deployment workshop beginning this
summer for parents in the middle of
a deployment or preparing
deployment. We are also beginning a
CACO process Workshop for military
families. Special Programming is
conducted throughout the year
especially for children and spouses
of deployed Marines and Sailors such
as Deployed Family Movie night –
Tiger Cruise. Deployed Spouse
groups/workshops conducted by HQMC
contracted personnel.
|
|
|
I would like to attend a LINKS session or KV
Training, but my husband is deployed and I don't
have a sitter. |
We have arranged for the CDC to
provide childcare free of charge for
MCFTB programs, even on weeknights
and Saturdays. The CDC must have at
least 10 children registered in
order to provide the service. If
there are not enough children for
the CDC to provide services, FCC
providers may be used. A participant
may also be reimbursed the cost of
childcare if they use a private
sitter.
|
|
|
Why can't MCFTB offer unit KV and LINKS sessions ? |
We Can. The unit
needs a minimum of 10 participants
in order for us to conduct a unit
session. The sessions will run the
same length of time as our normally
scheduled sessions.

|
Fitness Center |
Are there any plans to build a new and larger
Fitness Center?
|
The Command has had a MilCon project
programmed/validated for a new fitness center
for a number of years. The Project is currently
in FY13 MilCon program. However, it competes
with other milcon projects such as barracks.
Accordingly, housing single Marines takes
precedence to physical training. We regret a
more favorable response could not be provided.
|
|
Devil Dog Gym |
Why doesn’t the Devil Dog Gym remain
open 24 hours daily?
|
We have offered longer hours in the
past. The number of patrons utilizing
the fitness centers during the
later hours did not justify the
additional staffing and was not cost
effective. Usage is monitored closely
so that we can provide the best service
possible.
|
|
Semper Fit Center |
Where is the Semper Fit Center
located and what is available there?
|
|
The Semper Fit Center is located on mainside (in
between E & F streets), attached to the
Indoor/Combat Pool, near the Marine Dome & the
Devil Dog Gym. The building number is 3383. The
Semper Fit Center is the headquarters building
for the Health Promotion program. There is a
variety of health education information &
materials available in the Semper Fit Center.
Information is available on topics such as
Nutrition, Physical Fitness, Injury Prevention,
Stress Management, STD Prevention, Tobacco Use
Prevention & Cessation, Hypertension Education,
& Suicide Prevention.
|
|
Can I get my cholesterol or blood sugar checked & if
so, how do I go about doing that? |
Yes, you can get a variety of screenings
done at the Semper Fit Center to
include, cholesterol, blood sugar, blood
pressure, body fat & more. All you need
to do is call 466-6467 for an
appointment.
|
|
Open League Sports |
Why do Active Duty
Marines have to pay an
entry fee to participate
in "Open League" sports?
|
|
All
Intramural Sports leagues are free to Active Duty
Marines & Sailors. The additional "Open League"
sports leagues are open to all authorized patrons
aboard the Air Station. An entry fee is charged to
help offset the expenses to run the league. |
|
Swimming Pools |
What will the fees be
for family members to
use the outdoor swimming
pools this year?
|
|
Good news.
The outdoor pools are free for Active Duty military,
Retired military & family members of Active Duty
military & Retired military. ID cards will be
required to enter the pools. |
|
Are the pools available for private parties? |
|
Yes, the
outdoor pools may be rented for private parties on
Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
You may reserve the pool & inquire about the fees by
calling the Aquatics office at 466-2510. |
|
Roadhouse |
Why are we not allowed
to smoke in the
Roadhouse?
|
|
Federal
regulations prohibit smoking inside government
facilities. However, an outside deck that will be
enclosed & have ceiling fans installed is scheduled
to be completed by the middle of July. Smoking will
be permitted in this area which is attached to the
Roadhouse. |
|
Paintball Course |
Why doesn't Cherry Point
have a Paintball Course?
|
|
Several
year ago, Cherry Point had a Paintball Course. At
first, it was used quite frequently. However, the
usage decreased dramatically. A lot of money was
invested in the supplies to operate the course which
was used by just a few patrons. The decision was
made to close the course due to the lack of
participation. A recent entertainment survey was
conducted in which paintball was at the top of the
list of what the Marines & Sailors wanted aboard
Cherry Point. MCCS is contracting & paying a vendor
from Camp Lejeune to come to Cherry Point with all
the supplies needed to participate in paintball. A 3
person tournament will be held in the athletic field
adjacent to the Roadhouse on Saturday, 23 June. The
number of participants at this event will determine
if we need to offer a paintball course at Cherry
Point. |
|
Community Center |
Why can't children under
12 years of age
participate in
activities at the
Community/Teen Center?
|
The Community Center houses our Teen
Center & Boys & Girls Club for
teens. The Children, Youth & Teen
marine Corps order states that teen
centers are stictly for youth 12 to
18 years of age (and 18 year olds
must be in school). Most parents
would not want their 8 or 9 year old
to open recreate with older teens
because of the maturity levels of
the different age groups. The Cherry
Tree House offers summer camps for
youth 12 & under. For more
information contact the staff at the
Cherry Tree House at 466-3861.

|
Gasoline |
Since
MCAS Cherry Point does
not have to pay State,
Local and Federal taxes
on gasoline, why isn't
gasoline always less
expensive than out in
town?
|
MCAS Cherry Point
pays all State, Local and Federal
taxes the same as all other
operations that sell gasoline in
North Carolina, the military gets no
tax breaks.
|
|
|
Why doesn't MCAS Cherry
Point sell diesel fuel?
|
We currently do not have
tank capacity to support
diesel fuel but have
included the additional
tanks in a submission for
the remodeling of the
Service Station in 2009.
|
Main Exchange |
Why is the Main Exchange
torn up?
|
|
The Main Exchange is undergoing a total remodeling
which began in July, 2006 and is scheduled to be
completed in October, 2007. When the newly remodeled
store re-opens later this year, we will move the
Package store into the old Mall area, relocate
Subway from the Service Station into the Main Store
Complex, move GNC across the Mall to a new, larger
space outside the Commissary, move the Military
Clothing store into the Main Exchange complex and
provide a true one stop shopping experience for our
patrons. |
|
Will the new Wal*Mart store hurt the sales in the
Main Exchange?
|
|
While Wal*Mart is a great retailer and the largest
retail company in the world, it cannot offer the
National brands that we carry in the Marine Corps
Exchange-Estee Lauder, Nautica, Quicksilver, Sony,
New Balance, Clinique, Nike, Vera Bradley, etc and
they are required to charge the 7% sales tax that
all "outside the gate retailers must collect". With
the work that is being done to bring our patrons a
newly remodeled Main Exchange (to replace our tired
old facility), with the national brands, and a
greater emphasis on customer service, we expect to
remain competitive and do not foresee a major loss
in the business. |
|
Why does to Main Exchange not carry some of the
items that they carried a few years ago?
|
When buying for the Exchange was
centralized into Quantico a few
years ago, we gained access to a
system which tracks every sale that
is made on every item that is sold
at MCAS Cherry Point. In the last
two years we have used that
information to begin to tailor what
merchandise is offered to our
patrons based on what they are
buying in the stores. This has
resulted in the elimination of
brands such as Liz Claiborne which
did not generate enough sales and
profit to warrant space in the store
and the same is true of some other
more expensive lines of clothing.
The assortment of young men's
clothing (surf and skateboard
clothing brands) has grown as has to
offering in Juniors clothing.
Basically, every time you purchase
something in the Main Exchange, or
anywhere on Station, you are voting
for that product to be carried in
the store, the more votes we get for
categories of merchandise, the more
of that type of goods that we will
try to carry. Overtime, this should
maximize the shopping experience of
our patrons who shop the stores
regularly and will adjust our
offering continuously to support
your desire for new categories of
merchandise and eliminate slow
moving items that you are no longer
interested in purchasing.
