DRUG DEMAND REDUCTION PROGRAM
The Drug Demand Reduction Program primary responsibility is to support the Marine Corps illegal drug use prevention activities (Illegal Drug Use Education and Urinalysis Testing.) The Drug Demand Reduction Coordinator and Specialist are responsible and available for the ongoing assessments of tenant commands illegal drug use prevention needs.

Per MCO P1700.24B, "The use, distribution and possession of illegal drugs are contrary to the effective performance of Marines and to the Marine Corps mission, and WILL NOT BE TOLERATED". Every attempt will be made to prevent drug abuse through PROACTIVE and REACTIVE measures. The most effective and long term program is one that promotes an attitude of OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY on the part of the individual. This effort with the assistance of the Drug Demand Reduction Team requires total leadership of all Officers, Staff Noncommissioned Officers and Noncommissioned Officers.

In addition, the Drug Demand Reduction Team is available to support our local community in the battle against illicit drug use.

FAST FACTS

Marijuana remained the drug most commonly used by military personnel, and use of other drugs was much lower. However, Cocaine and Prescription Drug Abuse is on the rise.

Illicit drug use was related to productivity loss as measured by being late for work, leaving work early, being hurt in an on-the-job accident, working below one's normal level of performance, and not coming to work because of illness or injury.

Military personnel who used any illicit drugs or any drug except Marijuana were more likely than all DoD personnel to report loss of productivity from work.

Overall 87,4% of military personnel reported being tested within the past 12 months. marine Corps personnel (93.9%) reported the highest rates of testing in the past 12 months.
